What surprised me the most within the first chapter I read is there that there is people who have a strong passion for writing and reading. That not everyone but a handful of people a vert strong definition for what they think writing is.
A few key terms from this chapter was threshold concept, genre, and critical analysis.
Threshold Concept-type of way someone thinks that does not allow them to see another way of thinking
Genre- a category identified as a form or style
Critical Analysis-writer opinion on what they’ve read
Threshold Concepts examples from other studies such as math could be the way you learn to multiply fractions, once you learn one way that becomes your threshold because usually you are not openly thinking of others way.
I also agree with that many people have different views on what writing is. In the chapter there were many different people that came up with things about writing like Greene and Straub.
